Baby Boy 8 Month Update

Age: 8 months

Whoa, Baby Boy we now know in month 8 that you are fearless, an adrenaline junkie, way ahead of the curve with your gross motor skills, a monster eater and still the sweetest little thing in the world!  This kid's world has opened up so much this month with his bravery in standing, crawling, pulling up on everything and eating all the new foods.  He's so curious and a tiny explorer around our whole house.  What fun to see this baby turn into a bigger kid by the day

Weight: 22+ lbs  He's SO chunky!

Length: Not sure, hasn't been measured lately

Sizes: He's in all 12 month clothes and even a few 18 month shorts because of his plump little belly.  He's size 4 diapers during the day and size 5's at night because of his massively huge morning poops

Eyes: Blue.  He smiles with his eyes-all of his joy and silliness just radiates right out of those baby blues.  Likewise, when he is heartbroken or  upset his little eyes tell the whole story.

Hair: Red still wahoo!!  He has one little curl right on top as it grows and it's getting longer in the back too.  It's so soft and perfect

Sleeping:  3 naps a day still for this kid-8:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 4:00 pm like clockwork.  He typically sleeps 6:45 pm-6:00 am straight through the night but occasionally gets up tat 2:00 am to say hello and have a little bottle

Eating: This.  Kid.  Can.  EAT!!!!!  He cannot get enough solids.  It's so fun to feed him.  He hates purees or being fed (don't blame him at all, he's been through a lot with oral trauma and doesn't trust people poking around: medications, suctioning, scopes etc have definitely given him reason to be scared).

The new foods he's tried this month include black beans, green beans, watermelon, yogurt, rice pudding, naan, cucumber, pickles, noodles, donut, bread, cheez-its, crackers, peanut butter, egg, strawberry, nectarine, clementine, cheerios, cinnamon Life, a sugar cookie, ham, turkey and pizza HA!  You guys seriously, he's nuts.  We always watch him like a hawk when he eats but he rocks it and regulates.  He also drinks 32 oz per day over the span of 4 bottles.  He's a tank!

Milestones/Words: Crawling perfectly, standing holding onto something, pulling up on everything, wobbly steps when supported or holding onto something.  He's a fast boy with a lot to explore

Memorable Outings:  We went to the zoo last weekend which I think he really enjoyed!  He was able to take in more of the sights instead of snoozing the whole time

Favorite toys/activities:  He is so into this light up push toy we have, the tool set, wooden Abacus, and musical instruments.  He's happy to explore the kitchen shelves, crawl up and down the hallway, and pull up on anything that gives him a view

Funny Moments: He has had us laughing a lot this month!  We find him standing in the craziest places or suddenly all alone in his room just examining a toy or object ha!  He's like, "I'll be in my room playing with my toys if you guys need me!"

Looking forward to:  Walking!  He's so dang advanced with his gross motor skills I anticipate some steps by month 9.  What fun to take them to the park and on walks together in the very near future

Reunions, Playdates, and Fun!

Our Saturday was free so early in the morning we decided to head to the zoo!  We wanted to pre-celebrate Giddy's 2nd birthday next week so we packed up and headed out.  The weather was perfect and it seemed like no one else in Denver went to the zoo at 9:00 am (shocker!).

We saw all the new dinosaurs scattered throughout the zoo which really impressed the birthday boy with their movements and sounds.  We ended our morning with a carousel and ice cream :)

These are some pictures from earlier in August.  I spent the ENTIRE last week away from my boys while I had orientation at the hospital.  I really missed them but my mom was Super Grammy and took fantastic care of them for us.

Messy lunch boy!  And this was shortly after lunch.  I leave Giddy in his crib with books while I put Baby down for his nap and he always falls asleep reading.  So sweet!

Sticker monster!

We hosted a playdate for two of my dearest friends and their kids earlier this month.  Ali, Bre and I have been friends since high school and now we have 7 (almost 8) kids between us.  It was a crazy and loud playdate!

This picture really belongs later on in the post but this is us leaving for my 10 year high school reunion

Ryder had his 5th birthday party last weekend so we ate lots of good food, blue cake, s'mores and it poured rain which made all the kids shriek in the tent and of course want to get soaked.  We love our little future engineer, Ryder!

Aebrynn was a cake monster!

Baby is officially crawling and moving fast!  He is very into pulling himself up onto everything and will be standing with no problem very soon.

My 10 year reunion was last weekend and we ended up having a really good time!  It was at Punch Bowl Social in Denver and enjoyed a delicious buffet, yummy drinks, and chatting with old and new friends.  I am glad we went and it was a nice night out!  Reunions seem to get such a bad rap but we had a blast.

It was fun to reminisce with old friends and catch up with some new ones.  If you told me 10 years ago that I would be at my high school reunion with my amazing husband of SEVEN years, preggo, with two sweet boys at home, working as a nurse, having all the incredible life experiences that we've had...I would say DANG, WHAT A LIFE!  So thankful that that exact life is mine :)

I wonder what the next 10 will bring.

16 Week Update Pregnancy #2

Week 16 Pregnancy Questionnaire

Baby Size: An action figure or dill pickle (according to a cute chart I found on Pinterest)

Food loves:
Much like my first pregnancy food is not a huge piece of this whole thing for me.  I mostly eat to avoid blood sugar swings but no intense cravings yet.  I can tolerate sandwiches, cereal, yogurt, plain bagels with cream cheese, soup, smoothies, crackers, pasta and fruit.  I can eat just about anything which makes me REALLY thankful.  We did eat at an amazing Tibetan restaurant a few weeks ago and I about popped from all the chicken tikka masala and coconut rice pudding I consumed.

Food hates:
Anything that is grilled (just the SMELL of the grill makes me nauseous!!), raw meat (not that I'm eating it but the sight of it), anything overly salty.

3 Pros of Week 16
1.  My belly has really popped so I get the door held open for me, lots of smiles from people and so many questions about the baby
2.  I mostly feel pretty good this week!  The most intense nausea and vomiting seems to be behind me-THANK YOU JESUS!!!
3.  Not a single stretch mark and I hope it stays that way

3 Cons of Week 27 & 28
1. The burned mouth!  It's so annoying.  I've been looking it up and women complain on forums but no one has good solutions.  You know when you sip too hot coffee?  Like that but all over all the time.
2.  Frequent pregnancy migraines-they are painful and last a really long time :(
3.  The blood sugar swings still come pretty strongly if I go more than an hour without eating

Working Out:
We walk every evening as a family for about 30 minutes.  I try to keep track of my FitBit to get 4 miles in throughout the whole day or about 10,000-12,000 steps a day.  If I'm feeling really ambitious I walk with the boys in the morning and do all the hills around our neighborhood.

Best Moment of the Week:
I successfully completed a full work week of hospital orientation with no major nausea, throwing up or issues.  That felt like I've really turned a corner in this pregnancy to have the stamina to be able to do that.  Thankful for my body being able to handle more.

Ryan and the boys:
Ryan continues to take AMAZING care of me with food, late night bowls of cereal, foot rubs and thoughtfulness.  Giddy just yesterday afternoon saw my belly when I was changing out of my work shirt, pointed to it and with HUGE eyes said "Oooooo!"  Clearly he was impressed with the size.  Baby Boy mostly just bounces on my belly when I hold him and has no clue what's going on-ha!

Baby Decker Due January 2018!

Say what??!  Yes indeed.  We have a baby cooking and he or she is due at the end of January.  I should probably just say the little one is due in February because he or she will very likely be overdue.  Gideon spoiled me with being so early (but healthy) as my first but I can't get used to that!

I will say, this pregnancy is TOTALLY different than my last.  Night and day.

I can eat anything and everything for the most part.  But honestly nothing sounds good and I've had this ridiculous burned/dry feeling in my mouth since week 5.  With Gideon I survived on cereal and smoothies for 14 weeks but with this baby, there is not enough food on the planet to keep me full.  Ryan had to cut me off after THREE plates of chicken/broccoli/potato dinner plus a fruit smoothie plus a piece of buttered toast for dinner.  Still starving after all that!

I'm not as exhausted as I was with Gideon but definitely more blood sugar swings and queasy plus, weirdly, I've been throwing up way more in the last 3 weeks or so.   Just the sight of raw meat sends me running the the bathroom. *shudder*

We are so thankful for this little life.  It's a crazy good blessing and while our life will get unbelievably busy with a 2.5 year old, 1 year old and newborn by January...we know we can do this and love these little ones well.

As you can also see, I do not have time or energy AT ALL for pregnancy updates.  I've taken one measly picture of my pregnancy so far and it was 6 weeks ago.  Whoops!  Sorry future son or daughter.

This picture is 6 weeks old and I have to say my belly is enormously bigger since then.  I cannot believe the difference with this pregnancy!  Currently my 15 week belly (baby is the size of an eclair!) looks very similar to my 24 week belly with Gid.  Poor abdominal muscles never really recovered I guess plus this Decker child is like the hungriest baby on Earth!

I'm beating the tiredness with daily naps and Ryan is cooking me tons of good food.  My mom delivers whatever food sounds yummy several times per week (and watches the boys and folds our laundry and does SO much for us!), my dad made my homemade dinner just a few nights ago and Ryan's parents have come by with coffee and smoothies and watched the boys.  I'm so thankful for dinner being dropped off by friends, prayers for this little one's life, and all the help we receive.  It's a gift.

Updates to come!  Hopefully I'll get around to weekly-ish pregnancy updates :)

July Wrap Up

August is right around the corner and that means pumpkin spice lattes and fall isn't too far either!  My favorite time of year.  I'm not sure how to decorate for fall this year with a busy 2 year old who climbs on everything and would promptly make any decorations his new toys.  Hmmm....

We've had a good summer and a full last week of July.  I'm ready to welcome cooler weather and start to wind down summer.

Giddy and I got a date just the two of us last week.  We went to the Children's Museum in Broomfield (wouldn't really recommend it but still fun to get out) and then to Starbucks for treats!

I couldn't resist getting his picture.  He fell asleep reading.  What an angel toddler!

Not sure why this is a pertinent picture but I made some really yummy nachos for dinner!  It was just black beans, chicken I seasoned and sautéed up quickly, red and green bell peppers also sautéed, chopped tomatoes, cheese and sour cream.  So easy and yummy

Last week we met Daddy for a lunch date.  The weather was perfection so we found a Tibetan restaurant with a shaded outdoor patio.  The boys were angels.  I couldn't believe how well they did!!

This guy always wakes up pretty grumpy from nap so I save his screen time for then.  I just plop hin in front of his favorite movie with a drink and a snack and let him re-acclimate to the real world

Two shirtless boys!  And Baby Boy showing off that sweet double chin!

Saturday evening I had a MOPS leadership meeting.  I signed up to be a table leader and publicity leader for our group this year.  I absolutely love MOPS-I started attending in 2015 right before Gideon was born and it has been something I look forward to every year since.  If you need a MOPS group contact me!

The hottest afternoons are spent lounging on the floor.  We usually open up our tee-pee, watch a show or pull out crafts

This kid!! One minute he's playing with dirty worms and the next minute he's having "coffee".  Such a fun little guy

I had to post some pics of Giddy's garden.  He gets SO thrilled if you ask him to show you his pumpkins.  He waters them daily and even stirs the dirt up a bit to "weed" ha!

He's also growing tomatoes and green bell peppers

Saturday afternoon we went to a birthday party for one of Gid's best friends, Declan.  I love that my best friend's kids are my kid's best friends :)  We bounced in a bounce house, ate cake, and played hard!

End of July + New Things

How is it the end of July already??  We have so much coming up and happening lately!

We chowed down on donuts with friends Friday morning to celebrate Gideon's little friend James turning 2.  We have two birthday parties to end out the month's Saturdays which I think will be a lot of fun.

We also have a backyard camping trip we are going to for Ryder's birthday that will be a blast and I hope the boys love it.  Besides that we have a million doctor and dentist appointments, caseworker visits, bio parent visits, another court hearing for Baby Boy and a million playdates and outings in between.

On another note, I was offered a nursing job at Children's Hospital last week! I am really thankful to be moving out of pediatric home health nursing.  I start in two weeks in the PACU and am so thrilled that it's just 4 times a month!  It's actually the floor that I worked on through nursing school so there were a lot of familiar faces when I went in to interview.  Wahoo! It's the perfect fit to get out of mommy-mode and do something in the grown up world every week.

In addition to my new job we have my 10 year high school reunion in about 2 weeks and that is blowing my mind!  We are going (much to my own surprise) mostly because two of my good friends are planning it ha!  I think it will be fun to catch up with people I haven't seen and show off Ryan Decker and enjoy a night out together with no kiddos.

It's always around this time of year with August just around the corner that I get excited to walk the back-to-school aisles at Target and smell the crayons and new folders and backpacks (creeper!!) and welcome fall in a few weeks.  I can't wait for pumpkin flavored everything and will be starting that before it's socially acceptable.

Well that is a little update on us with lots of pics below!

My diapered boy giving some morning cuddles-lucky mama!  Gosh he looks enormously tall

This kid!  He is such a hot mess most days.  He has a mouth full of old french fries, his friend Penny's sunglasses on, and a shopping cart full of who knows what.  I just love him.

Sorry to creepily blur our Baby's face-didn't have time for his usual heart.  These boys love their baths!

Declan is 2 and LOVES babies!  Him and Gideon barely played, Dec just wants to hold babies

Daddy and Giddy snuggles.  I love his batman jammies

Here are our donut pics!  We went to Lamar's and it was delicious-everyone was a sticky mess

Donut boy

I saw this on Facebook and thought this is my life summed up on a mug.  I pray this everyday-ha!

Family pic!  Everyone had on stripes minus Ryan as my mom pointed out

This was one of the funnest birthday parties we've been to lately.  Our friends rented an indoor soccer field and there were lots of balls and a big parachute to play with.  We ate pizza and cupcakes after. Such a fun Saturday morning!

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
